Intense smokiness on the nose that is balanced by the underlying fruit to create an intoxicating aroma. Allow this to come fully up to temp and do not drink/serve on the cool side as it can feel tight and unaccessible. Once at temp it is well balanced on the palette and incredibly delicious. The red fruit/cherry comes through making for a real treat. I throughly enjoyed this Pinot, even more so with a wood grilled pizza topped with fresh mushrooms.

Jeremy on Jim Olsen and Tom Shula Pickberry Merlot 2013
In my opinion this Merlot is at the absolute top of its game. Normally I find the varietal soft and uninspiring when bottled singularly. Jim and Tom’s Pickberry however is the furthest from that I could ever imagine. It is polished, structured and expressive in an unexpected manner, but it has allowed me to truly grasp the potential of the grape. Appearance: Inky, deep and rich, almost to the point of brooding, reminded me of a Malbec. Very shocking for a Merlot based on my past experiences. Nose: Ultra dark chocolate (90%+ cacao), earth, dark berries and a hint of spice, perhaps a touch of leather. Taste: Lush dark fruit, blackberry, dark raspberry, cacao, finishes with mild spices. The mouth feel is divine. The initial cacao dryness lends way to the lush juicy fruit which leads into a touch of acidity that can be felt on the sides of the tongue but finishes dry, though not tannic in any way. I’m not sure I have had a Merlot that was as exquisitely crafted and babied as this. I don’t say this often, but this was a wine I will remember in detail for years to come. It is one of THOSE bottles. Drinking this bottle was itself an experience to be savored (and I did) as each sip was as spectacular as the next all the way to the end of the bottle. I was quite sad when the bottle was empty. All joking aside I poured every last drop out of this bottle.

The first bottle I thought was good, I gave a three star rating. But I'm currently drinking bottle number 2 while writing a paper. I must say, I think my taste buds were off the first time. This is a very fun wine. I really appreciate the structure and fruit. I do feel this needs time to both warm up properly and breathe. It benefits from both greatly. I often have a habit of pulling a bottle out at cellar temp (55 for me) and pouring it right away. Today I chose to let it warm up to room temp (63 today) with the cork out. This significantly helped the bottle. The first time I felt the fruit was too forward and almost tart on the tongue. After resting and warming the fruit is perfectly balanced out as has the overall mouthfeel and body of the wine. I am thoroughly enjoying this bottle while writing a graduate paper. I'm just sad it is out of stock and I only have 1 left!!! I will certainly wait for the right moment to open the last one. Oh and 4.5 for me! I would so buy a full case of this or the next vintage if more becomes available.
Jeremy on Jim Olsen Chardonnay Manton Valley 2014
I'm not into most Chardonnay because I find the California ones ruin the fruit and subtlety. That is NOT this case in this wine. Jim has done a remarkable job crafting something much more Old World in nature while keeping some great fruit flavors up front. I do agree I prefer this only lightly chilled (52-56) instead of traditional White serving temp. On the nose apple, hints of stone and some grass. On the palette much of the same with just the right amount of acidity and a TOUCH of cream, but not what most would considered Oaky. Fabulous and delicious. I started my journey with this wine by trying to solo. I then proceeded, at Jim's gentle urging ("can't go wrong" he says), to try all manner of food items with it. Initially I started with some fresh Dungeness Crab cakes... Worked really nicely. I proceeded to finish a leftover cheese plate I had. Shockingly I REALLY enjoyed this with a 24mo Parmesan cheese. The fruit came forward, the "cheese" was not lost, but the salty component melted away leaving an interesting and amazing experience. Jim, You have crafted a gem. Thank you much!
Jeremy on 99 Barrels Pinot Noir Anderson Valley 2013
I was luckily enough to receive a bottle of this during a visit to the Napa HQ in May. It also happened to be a day Derek was hosting a tasting for the staff, so I was able to meet him and taste some of his wines. All of them amazing. This wine however, Easily one of my top 3 Pinot's! Cherry is certainly the word of the day. I love how this wine has matured. The American oak is incredibly supportive of the fruit, providing a needed break from the incredible burst of cherry in the mouth. It adds that wonderful well known "bacon" or "bacon-fat" layer that really lifts and cradles the fruit in a way that I adore. The lushness of the fruit isn't lost, but instead kept fresh and vibrant from it. The finish is delicious with some pepper and spice that makes you want to go back for another sip, you are never bored with this wine. Each sip is as interesting as the previous until the bottle is gone. Can you tell I loved it? Thanks again Derek!

Very enjoyable. To me it is fully dry on the back, which I enjoy. From the moment I opened it I knew I was in for a treat. The seductive deep cherry color with just a hint of burnt orange on the rim told me I was in for a treat. It did not disappoint. Juicy with just enough spice and complexity to keep me going back. While reasonably light in mouthfeel it provides so much in taste that I would still call it a very punchy wine. I found myself going back to it over and over even while distracted with work (a good sign). If the next vintage is as good I will definitely scoop some up right away, I came into this one to late to purchase more. Without a doubt this wine (next vintages) will be a friend for many dinners in the future. P.S This does require some time to breathe and/or decant. I was impatient and ran it through a Vinturi twice then let it sit in the glass for about 20 mins. It did change noticeably from my initial tasting. So please let it breathe.
Jeremy on Jean Philippe Moulin Champagne Brut
I loved JP's Brut! It is crisp and dry but supported by some wonderful juiciness in the fruit that makes me want to keep drinking it. The balance, compared to most Bruts, is in my opinion spot on perfection!
Jeremy on Jen Pfeiffer The Rebel Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
I had this bottle the other night with fellow angel Traci Watkins after a few days tasting in Napa Valley and all throughout Sonoma County. Overall this bottle, especially for the ROI, BLOWS AWAY some serious contenders that we tasted over the week. In my opinion this completely out performs several 92+pt Cabs that Traci and I tasted and is worth 4 times the price. Deep and rich in color I can only call this wine one thing on appearance, sexy. Well balanced fruit gives way to hints of chocolate and herbs (rosemary maybe as it is a woody herb). The finish is a little tight and not perfect but as this is young it is very understandable and acceptable. I now fully understand the almost cult fascination with Jen's Cab and I for one look forward to LOTS more. You can not find a Cab for this price, that performs like this, very easily if at all.
Jeremy on Leigh Meyering Leisureleigh White Wine 2014
While not MY particular style of white it is incredibly well made. All who enjoyed with me found it very tasty, as did I. It paired beautifully with some of the cheeses we had that evening. The nose if full of honeysuckle, lush fruit and the palate is balanced enough to be very drinkable and not cloying despite the sweet smelling nose. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Beautiful! Not sure much more needs to be said. The blend for this is Syrah, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Mourvedre. Boy does it show. The Syrah is prominent and if you enjoy a beautiful ripe Syrah you will love this wine. The finish is rich and complex from the Petite Sirah but is complemented by the wonderful spice/pepper only Zin and Grenache can provide. If you enjoy GSM blends, or a full bodied Syrah or Petite Syrah you will enjoy this immensely. While this will pair amazingly well with food, I was selfish and drank it alone. I think you will too. The entire time I spent with this bottle, despite my desire to analyze it all I could manage was "Tasty!" It just keep running through my head and TASTY it was. When a wine makes you forget your desire to analyze it and instead just focus on the moment and how wonderful it is, you know it's a winner.
Jeremy on Sin Fronteras El Mechon California 2013
With this wine I think understanding the blend is crucial to it's success. Macario lists this as 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Tempranillo. Immediately the assumption is that this will be more like a traditional Cabernet. I feel that is incorrect. It was not intended to be. Instead, in my opinion, the Cab is there to support and provide a backbone to the Tempranillo, whose nature is relatively low in acid unless grown in specific climates. Overall the nose is tight on this upon opening, given time to breathe via a decant you are presented with berries and leather predominately with the oak making a slight appearance. On the palette without proper breathing time it is berries and a bit of a thin mouth feel. I gave it two hours in a decanted and then finished the second half the next day back in the bottle. Once given time to stretch out you find a very rich texture thanks to the Cabernet but the Tempranillo provides wonderful fruit mixed again with some leather in what I would call a cross between New and Old world. The finish leaves you with subtle spice notes and dry on the sides of the mouth from the oak tannins. Overall I would call the body medium for those curious. This is remarkably versatile wine if intended to be paired. I think this goes equally well with tomato sauce as it does with Mexican food or a grilled steak and baked potato. Well done, great all around wine that I look forward to drinking with just about anything I can conceive of.
Jeremy on Daryl Rex Groom Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2013
Wonderfully juicy bright Zin. Lots of tart cherry and very subtle cream/vanilla notes. While the tannins are beautifully rounded there is a juicy acidity that makes this an amazing food wine. On its own it, while young, it may be a bit much for some. Give it a year or two laying down and it will be even more scrumptious. For now pair with a beautiful steak or a rich creamy blue cheese and watch the magic happen!
