I had the pleasure of meeting Jim at the Naked Wines tasting room in Sonoma. Purely a chance meeting. Jim, it was a delight to talk wine with you for a bit! OK, on to the wine. I first tasted the wine that day and liked it a lot. Just received two bottles in a case I ordered. I love ports and fortified wines. This wine is quite a bit lighter than a traditional fortified wine, but that's actually one of the reasons that I really enjoy it. It has the taste characteristics of a Zin-based fortified wine, but almost none of the "thickness". I don't know what grapes Jim is using, and it doesn't say on the bottle... I'd be curious to know. And, for a 17% wine, I am blown away by its gentleness in the mouth. If you're looking for a classic port / fortified style, then be forewarned that this isn't that style. If the concept of a lighter version of what you'd typically expect, with all the flavor and a killer price tag is of interest, give it a shot. I'm really glad that I did. Looking forward to a glass tonight with some chocolate.
