Lay of the Land Ben Morven Farm Pinot Noir 2013
About the wine
Seriously classy Pinot Noir
- Intensely classy Pinot Noir from a beautiful vineyard in Marlborough's Ben Morven Valley. A bright core of black and red fruit shines through subtle, smooth layers of oak.
- This is the sweet spot at its best because Mike got to use Angel funding to hand harvest and destem 80% of the fruit, do an extra long 25 days on the skins to extract all the powerful fruitiness from the Pinot skins, and then a slow maturation in 100% French oak barrels (only 10% new).
- This is a versatile and elegant wine that is perfect for the holidays. If you're going to carve anything from a turkey to a roast, keep a bottle of this around.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Mike Paterson
- Mike used to be the Head Winemaker at one of New Zealand's finest, most prestigious Sauvignon Blanc wineries.
- He loved the job, but he also loved the idea of fulfilling his life-long dream of going it alone. Only problem was, the financial equation was "beyond scary" (as Mike put it!).
- That's where we (and our 100,000 Angels) stepped in. We've funded Mike to go it alone on one tiny, simple, lovely condition: he makes you some absolute stunners in the wine department. And from what we've tasted so far he's been true to his word...
