About the wine
Rich, tempting fortified red straight from the Sierra Foothills and just perfect for dessert
- Meet Doce + Forte, a luxuriously lush, fruit-driven and mouth-filling fortified red, loaded with intense dark berry flavors that carry you away on a silky-smooth mouthfeel from the first sip to the last.
- Thanks to Angels, Ana was able to source traditional Portuguese varietals from the stunning 43-acre Saint Amant Vineyard in Amador County, where the conditions line up just right for first-rate fruit overflowing with lavish flavor.
- Ana carefully crafted this fortified red in the traditional method of making Port wine from her native Portugal, giving it layer after layer of refined, soul-warming deliciousness. Pair a glass after dinner with a rich, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate mousse and you’re all set!
Best before
Wood-aged Ports like this one are typically ready for early enjoyment, designed to be consumed while still relatively young. However, this wine can age for a very long time, due to the higher alcohol content. It can age for 10+ years, but you won't want to wait that long.
Serving advice
Port-style wine should be served just below room temperature, around 60 °F. My advice is to sip small amounts. It's not like a standard "still wine." This 2018 Doce + Forte has higher alcohol (19.2%) and residual sugar content, and is meant to be enjoyed as a sipper," or at the end of a meal. Ideally, once you pop the cork, you should drink the wine within 7-10 days. This is the reason why we bottled it in 500 ml bottles.
Food match
Blue cheeses, like nicely aged gorgonzola, or aged sheep cheese, are all fantastic pairings for this wine. Especially along with roasted nuts and dried fruits, as the contrast of flavors goes incredibly well with the sweetness of the wine. But my favorites are rich chocolate desserts (chocolate mousse is one of my very favorites!), or a (few) squares of good dark chocolate.
