About the wine
Rare Calaveras Zinfandel - this will be your instant favorite!
- Harvested from 30, 50 - even 100-year-old vines - grown in the heart of Calaveras County. You don't find a lot of these Zins around!
- Stephen says: "The flavor profile in this Zinfandel is up and out of sight. It has an intriguing Calaveras spiciness on the nose that carries over into the flavors and finish!"
- Dig a knife into some creamy aged cheese - slather a chunk on top of a warm slice of French bread, and have plenty of this flavor-packed red nearby. Bliss.
Best before
This wine can age but let's not get crazy about it. It tastes great now and will get better for the next 3-5 years if you can wait that long. I know I cannot wait.
Serving advice
This wine should be opened about 15-20 minutes before serving to give it a chance to gather itself together and put on a good display in the glass.
Food match
Sometimes the most simple pleasures are the most memorable. For this wine we often serve it with an aged cheese on good French bread with a savory tapenade.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Stephen Millier
- Stephen is no stranger to gold medals, but usually his prestigious employers are the only ones in the limelight.
- We offered Stephen some Angel funding to set aside some of his favorites wines and vineyards to make a special range with his name on the label just for us, and he jumped at the opportunity.
- If you like underdogs, Stephen's your man. He will find the over-looked and under-appreciated and he will take precious care to make sure they grow into big, beautiful wines that deserve more attention.
