About the wine
Smooth, sumptuous red with fruity finesse from the Foothills
- Stephen's top-rated red is back – and it's full of big, juicy flavors like ripe raspberries, blackberries and a nice long finish.
- Gathering seven Calaveras County varietals, Stephen used small-production winemaking techniques and barrel aging to bring you your oh-so-easy-drinking red.
- Your red blend is one of Stephen's favorites to sip with cozy, hearty dishes as the leaves start to fall. "I'm thinking beans, sausages and a rich sauce would make a perfect pairing."
Best before
This wine will age and age and age. I know. I've recently opened one from the 2014 vintage and it was wonderful. Full of life and flavor.
Serving advice
Perhaps opening about 30-45 minutes before tasting is the smart thing to do. But I never can wait that long. I rather like marveling at how the wine changes and evolves for those first few minutes. I guess I like the journey as much as the destination.
Food match
I'd pair this wine with anything in a rich sauce. A slow simmered cassoulet would be a good place to start. Or braised duck breasts like I enjoyed on my first visit to Bordeaux.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Stephen Millier
- Stephen is no stranger to gold medals, but usually his prestigious employers are the only ones in the limelight.
- We offered Stephen some Angel funding to set aside some of his favorites wines and vineyards to make a special range with his name on the label just for us, and he jumped at the opportunity.
- If you like underdogs, Stephen's your man. He will find the over-looked and under-appreciated and he will take precious care to make sure they grow into big, beautiful wines that deserve more attention.
