Rick Boyer Single Vineyard Santa Maria Valley Syrah 2017
About the wine
Sumptuous, single-vineyard Syrah - from your Central Coast champ!
Rick’s devilishly-dark red is overflowing with plummy red fruits, rustic wildberries, rich dark chocolate and a warm, spicy finish – a wine full of panache, and exactly what you’d expect from a Santa Barbara winemaking master.
When Angels voted Rick as a Winemaker of the Year finalist, he won the opportunity to receive funding for a passion project. Now 19 months later, he’s brought you the most decadent, single-vineyard Syrah he’s ever made - with premium fruit from the oldest appellation of Santa Barbara wine country.
Rick has a track record of making 90%-rated Syrahs – but this dream wine was his favorite to make thus far! And at just over 200 cases made, only a teensy amount of this special-edition Syrah exists...better get your order in – this is one wine you want to have this holiday!!
Best before
The wine can age for many years - retaining the lush mouthfeel. The fruit will start to mature, but it will be a really nice wine many years from now.
Serving advice
Big, lush wine needs a bit of time to breathe. Giving this wine an hour to two to open up before enjoying should do the trick. (Wines are made to consume early in their lives nowadays.)
Food match
Lamb burgers with plenty of garlic, grilled red onion slice and a slab of melted blue cheese (St. Agur) on an onion roll over an oak fire.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Rick Boyer
- We’ve been looking for an experienced winemaker familiar with the
Central Coast and Monterey area in particular – we knew Rick fit the bill. He's farmed gorgeous, cool SoCal vineyards for over 25 years! - He had been making wine his whole life, but got out of the biz (to start a bonsai
business) because the risk and middlemen got in the way of his passion. He's back in, thanks to you! - What makes Rick's wines special? "I take a different perspective compared to a lot of other wines out there - like Euro style; feminine; delicate - like focused generous reds, focused complex whites; plenty of persistence, fruit, and flavor."
