About the wine
Robust, world-class Zinfandel - an elegant red with classic California character
- Intense ripe dark fruit flavors course through this classic California Zinfandel, with a refined, elegant texture from a full 15 months of barrel aging.
- Winemaker Jonathan Pey harvested this Zinfandel from a selection of vineyards from Sonoma wine country down the California coast to Monterey and all the way to Paso Robles, masterfully blending the character of each region for a high-end Zin that captures the best of the Golden State.
- This Zinfandel is generous in more ways than one – once this current vintage sells out Jonathan will donate $1 to the Climate Registry for every bottle Angels purchase!
Best before
Some folks enjoy very young red wines full of bright fruit flavors. Others prefer older wines where the fruit has mellowed, and flavors are more earthy and subtle. Personally, I'd say enjoy a bottle now, then age a few for up to three years and you will be all set. Enjoy!
Serving advice
Like most younger red wines it's always good to decant it for an hour or so before serving. You don't need a fancy crystal decanter though - any container will work - just open the bottle and slosh it into a decanter. A flower vase, or even large bowl will do the trick. Then (if you don't use a decanter) with a small funnel pour it back into the bottle. This process gives the wine oxygen and really opens up aromas and softens the texture.
Food match
I would strongly recommend some slow roasted baby back pork ribs, either BBQ or oven roasted. It's fall-off-the bone deliciousness, with a little spice to marry with our Zinfandel's spicy elements. Some sweet/tangy BBQ sauce will be SO tasty with this wine too.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Jonathan Pey
-
Sonoma winemaker Jonathan Pey spent his early teen years in France — and it’s impressed upon him a desire to craft wines that unite Old World wine flair with ”why not?!” American attitude.
-
He’s topped Wall Street Journal’s wine lists, impressed critics like Robert Parker, and auctioned off precious coveted bottles at Premiere Napa Valley, but he’s most excited to make wines with Angels. Why?
-
In early 2020, Angels supported Jonathan through the COVID Relief Fund, so he could keep his independent operation running for harvest. You loved his Spicerack wines so much, we asked him to share more. He’s up for the challenge — and you’re guaranteed delicious rewards.
