About the wine

Rich, complex red from an Angel-turned-winemaker
  • Tom's richly complex red blend has just enough oak and ripe fruit– this Angel-turned-winemaker's doing a good job of making this whole viticulture thing look effortless.
  • Tom was one of our first crop of Angels...until his little winemaking project caught our attention, and we funded him (with over $1 million!) to fulfill his dreams of being a top-rated winemaker.
  • Tom says: "This is a versatile wine that will pair with a lot of foods. It is approachable enough to enjoy on its own, but it's big enough to stand up to rich meat dishes. My personal choice might be a grilled ribeye, but I think it would be equally good with lamb chops, roast duck, or spaghetti and meatballs!"

Best before
I expect this wine to improve significantly in the first 18-24 months after release. If stored properly it should continue to improve for at least 3-5 years.

Serving advice
If you want to enjoy it soon after release (so probably through March 2017 more so), I'd recommend decanting 30-40 minutes before serving. If you want a glimpse of how this wine may develop, pour a glass and recork the bottle. Let that glass sit for at least 30 minutes before you taste (you can swirl and sniff in the meantime). If you can wait, don't pour another glass until the next day. Repeat for a few days until it's gone!

Food match
This is a versatile wine that will pair with a lot of foods. It is approachable enough to enjoy on its own, but it's big enough to stand up to rich meat dishes. My personal choice might be a grilled ribeye, but I think it would be equally good with lamb chops, roast duck, or spaghetti and meatballs!

Meet the winemaker - Tom Shula

  • Tom Shula was one of our first 1,000 Angels. His passion for winemaking led him to make a barrel or two in his garage.
  • His wines were so fantastic that we took a huge gamble. 49,999 other Angels teamed up and raised about a million bucks for Tom to work with his dream vineyards and make his dream wines at a professional, state-of-the-art winery!
  • If you like rooting for the little guy, Tom's your man. He started in his garage and now he's making award-winning wines and living his dream. All thanks to you!
