I sure hope this is offered again - it is amazing! I recently had the extreme privilege of taking a vacation in Italy with my family, where we tasted lots of delicious wine and Port. In fact, I didn't have much of an appreciate for Port until that trip. I brought a bottle home and have been slowly enjoying it ever since, which is why, when this little gem was offered, and I couldn't have it shipped to me thanks to Missouri's shipping laws, I pulled as many strings as I could and had it sent to a friend's house in TN, where it sat for three months until we could drive over to pick it up... and it was well worth it! I knew it would be special because the Montaria vintages have been one of my favorite red wines, but I was floored by just how delicious it was! It is full of deep burnt sugar, prune, raisin, and earthy flavors - and is every bit as good as the bottle we brought back from Italy (and paid more than 3 x's the price for, incidentally). I enjoyed sipping it alongside a Maple & Nibs bar by Raaka Chocolate, which was a heavenly pairing. I cannot believe what a value this Port is, and I am already regretting purchasing only three bottles. We don't drink it often, it's definitely a strong, sweet, special occasion sipper, but it sure is nice to have around when the time is right!

Autumn on David Akiyoshi Moscato Clarksburg 2013

Wow, we really enjoyed this wine! I was a little concerned that we may not appreciate sweet wines as much as we used to since our palates have become accustomed to quite dry wines, but I needn't have worried - we loved it! Although it is much sweeter than most of the NakedWines selections, it is nothing like the syrupy sweet wines that we used to drink before... from the first sniff, we knew we would love it. It smelled of peaches, pears, honeysuckle and melon. Each of those scents were distinctly present in the first sip, along with something quite floral. The finish had a distinctive raisin flavor that is present in a lot of moscatos - I wonder if it's a characteristic of the muscat grape? We paired it with baked mac n' cheese and sweet peas cooked in a wine reduction made from deglazing the pan that I caramelized onions in - and yes, I used this wine. It was amazing! The wine was probably a little too sweet for the mac n' cheese, but it was fantastic with the peas, and really good all by itself for dessert. Sweet lovers will be very pleased to see this one, and I'm relieved to say that we have not lost our taste for sweet wines and will be ordering more for ourselves, as well!

Autumn on Matt Iaconis Riesling Monterey County 2013

Wow, we loved this one! I poured it alongside a meal of spicy lentil curry (curries are one of my favorite dishes to try white wines with), and it was an absolutely wonderful pairing! It was a little darker in color than I am used to in Rieslings, sort of a straw with some caramel color. It smelled of pear, honey, maybe apple, and it also had a sharp alcohol smell that dissipated as it breathed and opened up. It tasted of honey and pear, but in a deeper, almost caramelized way... is it possible to caramelize honey? If so, that's exactly how I would describe the dominant note in this wine. It seemed sweeter with the curry than it did on its own, so I would probably classify it as medium sweetness. This is definitely on my reorder list!

I brought this wine along when I visited some friends over the weekend and we poured it with a dinner of spicy red lentil curry with steamed peas. It was delicious! The wine was the perfect compliment because the spice from the curry brought out some sweet notes in the wine that I don't think we would have detected normally, yet it remained very light and crisp with hints of citrus and honey. It had a slightly tart finish, which was perfect for clearing the palate before more curry. I also loved the label. As a graphic designer, I'm not ashamed to say that I have chosen books by their covers and wines by their labels. Sometimes this leads me astray, other times, I discover things I never would have tried had I not been intrigued by the label. I would have tried this even if I didn't already know it would be wonderful because it was made by Randall Grahm. :)

This was an instant favorite in my house. Although we have worked hard to expand our palates and appreciate the dryer wines, we still have a big sweet spot for the slightly sweeter whites that we loved when we started out at NW.com, and this one is quite perfect. It is not overly sweet by any means, rather it is lightly sweet, floral, just the tiniest bit grassy, and all around wonderful. To me, it seemed like a perfect sipper for a nice Fall afternoon - it didn't require a food to mellow it out or bring out other notes; it just seemed nicely rounded right from the start. I smelled honey and maybe apple right off the top. There was a very slight sharpness to it that dissipated after a few minutes in the glass, leaving me with a nice, smooth wine that went down all too easily. As is often the case with Jim Olsen wines, I immediately wished that I had ordered several more bottles!

I love all of Jim Olsen's wines, and this one is especially lovely! It is sweet but not overly so - it was wall-received by friends who prefer dry reds as well as friends who only like sweet wines, so it strikes the perfect balance. It is not syrupy or cloying in any way, but is very fruity - strawberries, black cherries, some vanilla. There is also an earthy note that comes out particularly well when the wine is warmer - it's almost undetectable (by me) when it is cold. Although this wine stands by itself nicely, I think it was made for pairing with chocolate (of course, I think this about a lot of wines...). My favorite pairing so far is a nice chocolate souffle - it really brings out the vanilla and cherry notes in the wine.

This was a very nice Rose - in fact, I should have opened it when it was still hot outside, as the wine feels cool and refreshing. It is a beautiful strawberry color that just begs to be opened and enjoyed, so I was happy to oblige. It smelled a little like a wine cooler from back in the day (shout out to B & J - I'll admit to many an illicit drink hidden from the parents in my day), and that, combined with the color, lead me to expect a sweet wine. This was not that. It was about as far from B & J as a rose could possibly be - quite dry but with nice notes of strawberry and vanilla, maybe something a little floral, as well, and a light citrus booster. Nothing sweet or cloying about it. I didn't eat anything while I tasted it, but I imagine that it would be really tasty with something hot and spicy to offset the citrus notes....or maybe some fresh melon to bring out the fruitier side. I bet it would be good with just about anything!

We enjoyed this wine. I seemed medium-bodied, fairly easy drinking once it had been opened for about 40 minutes. It is dry, but with some nice fruity notes, and something a little earthy or maybe loamy.... we enjoyed it alongside a vegetable lasagne with a fairly spicy red sauce and it was a really nice pairing. I would definitely have bought more if I had opened it earlier!

I enjoyed this Sangiovese with a nice penne arrabiata, and the spicy sauce was perfect for the wine. I did let the wine breathe in a decanter for about 20 minutes before serving, and that helped smooth it out considerably. I tasted it right out of the bottle and found it to be quite sharp and a little metallic, but, after breathing, it opened up and I could taste some fruits with a nice earthy finish. I think it was a very nice table wine and am glad that I have another bottle stashed away for next time we're in the mood.

This is a nice crisp white - enjoyable on its own or with dinner. It is light, citrusy, and refreshing. I usually prefer whites to be pretty cold, enough so that I'll put them in the refrigerator before opening, instead of the wine cooler. This one, however, is a little better at room temperature, in my opinion. It tends to round it out without losing any of its crispness. We enjoyed it with bruschetta right after we opened it, and again after dinner by itself.

Very nice - dry, smooth, pretty easy to drink. I tend to prefer bubbly to be just a little sweet (which was not the case with this one), but this one was quite pleasant. I opened it to celebrate a toast for a colleague who is retiring, and he enjoyed it so much that he finished the bottle. We had a selection of cheeses, sweets, and fruits for the party, and I thought this one paired really well with fresh cantaloupe.

Wish I could get my hands on more of this! I enjoyed this Prosecco every which way - plain in a celebratory toast, alongside a lovely cheesecake for dessert, mixed with an excellent blackberry liqueur, and even (gasp) in orange juice for the perfect mimosa. It is more dry than I expected from Prosecco, but the light sweetness was perfect. Sadly, I had to special order this to a friend's house and wait many months before I could pick it up, as it can't be delivered to me in Missouri. I wish I had ordered more!
