About the wine

A daring Portuguese classic, by way of California
  • Ana’s tastebud-tempting Tempranillo beams with intense, bright flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, and plum that glide over a layer of soul-warming baking spice on a smoothness that’s yet to be matched.
  • Your support means everything to Ana’s ambition of crafting classic Portuguese wines on the West Coast. With access to some of the best Tempranillo growing in the Sierra foothills, she’s limitless in deciding how decadent and daring racy reds like this can be.
  • With layer after layer of complexity, this is one red you’ll want to let breathe for a few minutes after opening, ideally while whipping up a hefty steak or hearty veggie paella.

Best before
Due to the fact that this wine presents an immense tannin profile, rich in color, and with great acidity, it will age in your cellar over a long period of time. I'd dare to say, 8 to 10 years! However, if you’re patient enough, and decant it for 1 to 2 hours, you can enjoy it right away. Pour yourself a glass, while you wait, and see the wine open and shift. It's a perfect exercise while cooking dinner. If you can, please be sure to grab a few bottles to lay down in your cellar, and years from now, you will be rewarded for your patience.

Serving advice
Please be sure to open it at least one hour before planning on drinking it, so all the flavors can fully emerge, as well as to soften those powerful tannins. Ideally, this wine will be decanted for a couple of hours, so that all its unique aromas can be fully experienced. It will also subdue the tannin structure.

Food match
This is a full-bodied wine, which will pair great with hefty dishes. This wine’s secondary aromas and earthiness will make it a great pairing for a mixed cheese board (think Manchego, Parmesan, Cheddar) or an exquisite charcuterie plate. A rosemary-rubbed leg of lamb or a well-marbled barbequed steak (my choice would fall on a juicy New York cut) is also a great match for this wine. For a vegetarian choice, I’d recommend a rustic ratatouille or a vegetarian paella.
