Carmen Stevens Cabernet Franc Merlot 2018
About the wine
Luxurious South African red blend from your 1st Winemaker of the Year!
Layered with juicy fruits and subtle spices, Carmen’s vivacious red blend is a deep, brooding powerhouse that’s destined for the dinner table.
This one-of-a-kind red is made using fruit from prestigious wine regions Stellenbosch and Elgin. The fruit was handpicked and aged 10 months in expensive oak barrels – and with your support, this luxe wine is yours for a serious steal.
Carmen’s fiery red blend is an all-out Angel favorite and the perfect partner to some pepper crusted steak, well rested and served with freshly made aioli.
Best before
For a wine to be able to age and age well, you need
1. Good fruit expression
2. Depth of fruit
3. Layered fruit
4. A refined tannin structure
5. Good density of color pigments
6. The oak that compliments rather than overpower
7. Good refreshing acidity
8. All of the above in good balance with one another.
This wine shows all these attributes. The refined, supple tannins and the elegance of this wine suggest that this wine can be enjoyed now but, will need some decanting to bring all the beautiful fruit to the fore. This wine has all the attributes to be aged for 5-7 years if kept under the right conditions.
Serving advice
I do suggest to decant the wine for 30-45mins. The Angels will be rewarded with perfume and fruit from the Cabernet Franc, elegantly molded tannins of Merlot, soft vanilla, cinnamon influence from the barrel maturation and a subdued freshness because of the oxygen impact on the acid. Please enjoy!
Food match
A beautiful pesto pasta with heaps of roasted pine nuts served with fresh rocket leaves will make for a good companion to the Cabernet Franc/ Merlot 2018
