About the wine
Daryl calls this decadent, top-tier Cab his "candy"
This iconic Alexander Valley Cab is rich, silky and sprinkled with delectable flavors like dark berries and soft, smoky chocolate.
Daryl says he felt like a kid in a candy store when he harvested these top-tier grapes, which he hand-selected from two prime Alexander Valley locations – a mountain top vineyard overlooking the valley and a vineyard nestled against the hillside.
A red as smooth and lush as this is just begging to be sipped alongside a juicy ribeye...although this 8-time Winemaker of the Year says it’s just as delish with a burger or slice of pizza!
The last vintage of this killer Cab was a Gold medal winner at the 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition… so you can expect the same level this time around!
Best before
Will easily keep for 20 years. Lovely drinking now with food especially for a cabernet with most ideal drinking in 3-5 years where the wine has complexed and softened in bottle but still retains some fresh fruit vibrance.
Serving advice
Serve at room temperature or just below. If drinking soon after purchase best drunk with food. Will not go well with dessert or sweet if drinking young.
Food match
A nice juicy ribeye or lamb loin chops is best but goddamn I love it with a hamburger and pizza too.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Daryl Groom
- Meet Daryl... a 35-year veteran of the wine biz, credited eight-times as Winemaker of the Year, named by Food & Wine Magazine as one of 11 visionaries to change the world of wine... and oh yes, he served up his wines at the Oscars and Emmys two years in a row! Safe to say, the man's accomplished.
- Working as the senior white and red winemaker at Penfolds, his 1986 Penfolds Grange was arguably one of the top 3 Granges ever made - 98 points from Spectator and Robert Parker. And now that he works for you, he loves showing off wines from Australia and his California home – Sonoma and Russian River Valley.
- Thanks to your funding, Daryl can focus on doing what he loves – making great wine and sharing great wine. And he selects the best barrels he needs and farms to the best quality. "You are a gift from God to a winemaker," he says. "I knew there were Angels in heaven!"
–– "Groom made Penfolds' flagship red, Grange Hermitage, which has become Australia's most collectible wine." --Wine Spectator, on the $500+ Grange
–– "Groom is my choice for Winemaker of the Year " -- LA Times, Dan Berger
–– "Daryl Groom. The human Tornado. " -- Bill Rice, Chicago Tribune
