DRG Daryl Groom Barossa Zinfandel Shiraz 2018
About the wine
Daryl's delicious single-vineyard red blend is the best of Barossa Valley
- Bold, silky Shiraz mingles seamlessly with bright, savory Zin in this smooth, sophisticated red from Daryl that’s reeling with deep red berry flavors and a heavenly texture that makes this red sipper almost too tempting.
- Zinfandel and Shiraz are rare blending partners, but with your help, Daryl’s been a pioneer of the style, mixing his experience with Aussie Shiraz and California Zin to bring out the best of both in this craveable new red.
- Daryl sourced the fruit for this remarkable red from his own estate vineyard in legendary Barossa Valley, the region that some of Australia’s most iconic wines call home. Now Angels are bringing this groundbreaking wine to the world for an absolute steal.
Best before
The wine is really lovely now. I love the fresh pepper and spice and forward fruit. It will get better with a year's age as the tannins and youthful acidity will soften and integrate more.
Serving advice
In really hot weather serve this wine slightly chilled. Otherwise, you're good to just open and serve it straight out of the bottle. It helps if there is a wine glass!
Food match
This is a wine that works well with so many types of food, from red meat to salmon and everything in between. I love this wine with pizza or burgers. It would also be an awesome red wine to match with any spicy or gamey foods and it is great with BBQ.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Daryl Groom
- Meet Daryl... a 35-year veteran of the wine biz, credited eight-times as Winemaker of the Year, named by Food & Wine Magazine as one of 11 visionaries to change the world of wine... and oh yes, he served up his wines at the Oscars and Emmys two years in a row! Safe to say, the man's accomplished.
- Working as the senior white and red winemaker at Penfolds, his 1986 Penfolds Grange was arguably one of the top 3 Granges ever made - 98 points from Spectator and Robert Parker. And now that he works for you, he loves showing off wines from Australia and his California home – Sonoma and Russian River Valley.
- Thanks to your funding, Daryl can focus on doing what he loves – making great wine and sharing great wine. And he selects the best barrels he needs and farms to the best quality. "You are a gift from God to a winemaker," he says. "I knew there were Angels in heaven!"
