F. Stephen Millier Legend Series Hay Station Ranch Tempranillo 2017
About the wine
Bold and flavor-packed - this is the real treasure of the Sierras
Rich, robust and chocolatey-smooth, this is a *very* special single-vineyard project from your #1 winemaker of 2019. And his first Tempranillo on the site!
Fresh off his Winemaker of the Year win, Stephen triumphantly headed to the Sierras, where he harvested grapes from Hay Station Ranch – a former way station for horses back in the Gold Rush days that powered the Wells Fargo stagecoach line.
Now, Stephen’s harvesting a different kind of gold out of the Foothills… and it’s all thanks to you. Get in early, though – just 500 cases exist!
Best before
This Tempranillo will benefit with aging, but it will be hard to resist its charms for very long. Be thankful when you drink it. Share with your best friends.
Serving advice
Like most young wines this Tempranillo will benefit with a little air after opening. It will be hard waiting for it though.
Food match
I'm thinking about a braised pot roast with a tomato sauce to bring a little sweetness to the dish. And I'd like a wild mushroom polenta. Bringing a little sweet earthiness to the meal.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Stephen Millier
- Stephen is no stranger to gold medals, but usually his prestigious employers are the only ones in the limelight.
- We offered Stephen some Angel funding to set aside some of his favorites wines and vineyards to make a special range with his name on the label just for us, and he jumped at the opportunity.
- If you like underdogs, Stephen's your man. He will find the over-looked and under-appreciated and he will take precious care to make sure they grow into big, beautiful wines that deserve more attention.
