Forager Mendocino Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
About the wine
Decadent, rich and perfectly refined North Coast Cabernet
- Drenched in brooding flavors of ripe dark cherry, raspberry and a touch of toasty oak from barrel aging, this is Cabernet at its most elegant and intense.
- Winemaker Jonathan Pey set out to make a mighty Mendocino Cab by sourcing the best fruit from Redwood Valley and blending together small, stellar lots for an unforgettably rich and robust red.
- “We made only 25 barrels of this wine. Some wineries spill that in a week,” Pey said. It's a precious, rare vintage – and your special access to this gem is Jonathan’s way of thanking you for all your support.
Best before
If you like bold flavor, ripe fruit and good grip, pop it tonight. If you prefer secondary flavors of more subdued fruit and earthiness, wait a year or two.
Serving advice
It's sealed with a Stelvin screwcap so open it and then pour into a decanter for an hour. If you don't have a decanter, use a flower vase - you just want to give it oxygen so it can really strut its stuff.
Food match
Ideally slow-roasted lamb or pork, maybe with some Mediterranean flavors like rosemary, garlic, cumin, or coriander.
Contains sulphites
