Jim Olsen Syrah Manton Valley 2014
About the wine
The first Syrah ever bottled from the new Manton Valley AVA's unique volcanic soils
Jim Olsen, your Angel-funded winemaker, says:
- "This comes from a 35 year old vineyard planted in volcanic soils at a high elevation in the Manton Valley where there's lots of sunshine but the altitude ensures a big temperature swing from hot days to cool nights."
- "This is a brand new AVA and Angels may have funded the first ever red wine to be bottled with Manton Valley on the label. While the rest of the wine business takes ages to figure out if this region is 'marketable' or not, Angels gave me their confidence and the cash I needed to make a beautiful wine from this terroir."
- "So now you've got a big lush Syrah with a lot of elegance and character. Its ripe berry flavors and intensity make this Syrah a great summer BBQ wine, and Angels gets it for a song because I couldn't have made it without Angel support."

Years Angel-funded: 2012-18
- Jim didn't just study wine at the University of California, he taught about it for 30 years.
- Before Naked, he worked mainstream jobs like La Crema and held quirkier side gigs - like growing Portuguese grapes in Californian soil.
- Jim spent decades in California cellars. At Naked, he found the most surprising deals for Angels - delighting you with Winemaker Fantasy wines (like White Barbera!) as a true champion of the rare varieties and vineyards in the state.
