Karen Birmingham Nero D'Avola Lodi 2015
About the wine
From "Nero" to "Hero" Grab this devilish Italian red from Lodi
- Nero d'Avola is a grape you find grown in the hot southern hills of Sicily, where it's used for wines like Marsala. It's a deep, inky basket of black cherries (nero translates to black) and has a lot of similarities to Australian Shiraz.
- It's rare to find this wine anywhere in the States, let alone from an appellation like Lodi. There's not much Nero planted there –yet– but Karen is keen on making this sun-loving Italian red your next Californian discovery.
- This wine fits the Sicilian bill– complex, juicy, and full of every delicious flavor possible. It's begging you for an all-out toppings pizza (capers, artichokes, all the cheese...you name it)
Best before
This wine can be enjoyed right now. It would be interesting to put a bottle aside too and see what happens.
