Sam Plunkett Tait Hamilton Vineyard Shiraz 2018
About the wine
Sam's powerful, plush, single-vineyard red is Aussie Shiraz at its very best
- This is a full-bodied powerhouse red not to be taken lightly! Jam-packed with lush and juicy dark fruit flavors against an elegant backdrop of warm spices and a plush, heavenly mouthfeel from 14 months of barrel aging.
- The grapes for this wine are handpicked by Tait Hamilton from his magnificent vineyards in Heathcoate, on the border of Australia's Mount Camel Ranges.
- Sam says, "for fans of the dangerously big (and generally expensive) Australian Shiraz, this is a crackingly good example." And it’s all yours for a song!
Best before
I happily drink this wine as a youngster - I love the combination of plushness and brightness on the palate, the intensity of flavor, and the balance. But with its crazy low pH, and the great intensity of flavor, this wine has an impressive ability to age.
Serving advice
Best served at 60-64ºF.
Food match
We have a great butcher in Avenel, and ideally we'd have a piece of aged beef from Scotty to go with this Shiraz. But in truth it's a pretty versatile wine. Pair with any red meat, and perhaps follow on with a hard cheese instead of dessert.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Sam Plunkett
- Sam is one of our Australian All-Stars. He garnered lots of attention as the award-winning winemaker at Plunkett Fowles.
- But Plunkett Fowles hit rough waters and Sam wasn't sure he'd be able to stay in the wine business...until he became Angel funded. Your support put his startup on the map.
- Now Sam is off to the races – with the same dedication to quality winemaking that won so many accolades at Plunkett Fowles – and none of the bother about sales and marketing.
