Steve Rasmussen Syrah Mourvedre 2014
About the wine
Great fruit and a delicate, velvety touch
Your Angel-funded winemaker, Steve Rasmussen, says:
- "Black cherries and a rich velvety mouthfeel dominate this dark, full-bodied wine. A unique blend of 86% Syrah from the Premiere Coastal Vineyard and 14% Mourvèdre from the Estrella District in Paso Robles."
- "Angels let me work with great grapes and give them the royal treatment they deserve. These grapes were hand-harvested, gently sorted and crushed, and fermented naturally in keeping with traditional Rhone Valley methods."
- "Gentle handling and pressing has resulted in a wine with big soft tannins, making it drinkable now with room for improvement with age."
Best before
5 to 7 years of improvement with proper storage. Ready to drink now.
Serving advice
Serve at cellar temperature, 58 to 61 degrees.
Food match
I would pair this wine with some nice aged cheeses, bread and whatever fruits were in season. It also pairs well with a variety of dishes, from pastas with red sauces, to grilled vegetables and meats. My favorite local dish to go with this wine would be some grilled grass fed beef from Hearst Ranch in San Simeon along with whatever local vegetables were in season.
Contains sulphites

- After cutting his teeth at biiiig wineries like Inglenook and Corbett Canyon, Steve specialized in warmer climate wines in Argentina and Southern California. He still consults at several top notch wineries in Argentina and makes wine for British rock band Foghat.
- Steve's excited to work with Angel funding because it's a new opportunity to make small-volume, high-quality wines exactly the way he wants to make them.
- If you like that warm, rich Mediterranean style then Steve is going to knock you off your feet.
