Von Strasser Vineyard 2131 Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
About the wine
A powerhouse single-vineyard stunner from the king of Diamond Mountain
- Rudy’s single-vineyard Diamond Mountain Cab is the definition of deliciousness, with elegant, intense berry flavors like dark, ripe raspberry and cherry mingling perfectly with light vanilla and an oh-so-smooth texture from several years of barrel aging.
- At just 3 acres, Vineyard 2131 is one of the smallest vineyards in one of Napa’s smallest subregions, where the grapes are packed with hugely concentrated flavors that burst out in the finished wine. There are Napa Cabs – and then there are Diamond Mountain District Cabs!
- Rudy’s been making world-class Cab on Diamond Mountain for more than 30 years, and his 2013 vintage is one for the books! Get yours while it lasts!
Best before
I like my Napa Valley Cabernets with between 6 and 12 years age on them. So I think these two vintages are just starting to hit that zone, and will be drinking superbly for the next 10 years. As a wine ages, the young fruit character - like raspberries and vanilla - slowly change and morph into more complex aromas like COLA, big cherries, and even eventually soy/leather. The palate goes from being tart and aggressive to smooth and viscous. Experiencing these changes in a particular bottling is one of the great pleasures of enjoying single-vineyard Cabernets.
Serving advice
Use an ah-so styled cork-puller, or a sharp thinner screwed puller.
Food match
Anything. I am not a chef, so I tend to choose my wines based on what I want to drink and not what I want to eat. My best advice in pairing is to pair your best wine with your best friends. That always seems to elevate the evening.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Rudy von Strasser
Rudy von Strasser is a Napa legend — he played a huge part in founding the Diamond Mountain District, famous for its Cabernet. By rallying everyone in the region, he put the AVA (American Viticultural Area) on the map in 1999!
Rudy met Naked through Alex Farber — he was looking to expand his portfolio with some beautiful Petite Sirah, but didn’t have enough room in his winery.
Angel funding helped make that Petite Sirah possible. When he brought us his other wines, we knew we’d hit the jackpot! Rudy’s now able to share his wide range of Diamond Mountain District wines with Angels across the country.
