Matt Parish's Story
Matt kicked off his winemaking career in the early 90s with a Masters degree in Viticulture and Winemaking from his native New Zealand. After a decade as a "flying winemaker and consultant" in New Zealand, Australia, Italy and France, Matt was recruited to the US. For the next 15 years he held Group Director and Chief Winemaking roles at some of the world’s biggest wine companies, including Constellation Wines US, Treasury Wine Estates Americas and nakedwines.com. In these roles he oversaw the winemaking of internationally recognized and award-winning brands and created numerous others.
In 2016 after more than 25 vintages, Matt decided it was time to focus on his own brand and a select few consulting projects. Known for crafting extremely elegant and approachable wines we are pleased he did; in 2017 the US Angels voted Matt their “Winemaker of the Year”!
Today the Matt Parish brand includes varietals and blends from throughout California, with a big focus on Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. While many wines are from the revered Sta. Rita and Napa Valley appellations, Matt’s philosophy has always been about discovering those diamonds in the rough, so appellations like El Dorado and Contra Costa Counties also take pride of place.

Each wine is my interpretation of a vineyard, region, varietal and style, guided by one true constant, ‘make, blend and bottle only absolute pleasure,' " says Matt.
