Katie Jones La Gare Fitou 2014
About the wine
Angels saved Katie when vandals poured her wines down the drain
- When vandals poured Katie's entire year's vintage down the drain, she turned to us. You lovely lot helped to get her back on her feet - so this sensational wine is exclusive to you!
- BIG, full bodied and very concentrated. Tastes amazing now. But it'll be even more delicious if you can hold onto it for a few months (if you can resist it for that long).
- This is the flagship wine from one of our best-loved winemakers. But Katie only makes it in tiny quantities - so it won't be around for long.
Best before
I would keep it until Christmas 2015 before opening. It is a wine that will last for up to 6 - 10 years after that but I find optimum drinking mid 2016 onwards. The tannins are so soft and the oak so well integrated that I love to drink this wine relatively young despite its ageing potential.
Serving advice
I would seriously recommend opening this wine at least 2 hours before serving and decanting it to let it breath. The younger you drink it the more breathing it needs to do.
Food match
Wild boar stew!! Wild boar roam the hills round here and my husband is an excellent shot!
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Katie Jones
- Katie's obsession with wine led her all the way from Leicestershire to the Languedoc in the south of France. After selling wine for other people for years, she decided to pack it all in and follow her dreams, buying an idyllic vineyard perched on a hillside.
- Katie turned to Angels after vandals poured her entire year's vintage down the drain. Thanks to Angel funding, you got her back on her feet, producing more sensational wine in no time. Katie is keen to say thank you with a big Angel savings.
- Katie's wines are seriously juicy and robust, with sparkly awards a plenty... most recently she won a GOLD medal and the Fitou trophy at the International Wine Challenge and 90+ points from the Wine Advocate to boot.
