Richard Bruno The Scrapper Camino Alto Vineyard El Dorado Cabernet Franc 2016
About the wine
Richard's powerful, limited-release Cabernet Franc packs a velvety punch of vibrant fruit
- This powerhouse Cabernet Franc comes out swinging with bold dark fruit flavors, like ripe blueberry and black cherry, with a smooth, elegant texture thanks to more than two years of aging in French oak.
- Richard harvested this top-grade Cab Franc from older head-trained vines growing in a single hillside vineyard high up in California’s Sierra Foothills, where conditions are ideal for growing grapes with deeply concentrated flavors.
- This bottling of Cab Franc is a special selection from Richard’s own company Vinum Cellars. Supplies are limited, and as a one-time release, this may be the only vintage of this wine to ever appear on the site – if you’re after a high-end, powerful red, this wine is a must-try.
Best before
The 2016 will benefit from 1-2 more years in the bottle. Though it drinks well now, I feel the fruit will become expressed after more time of bottle conditioning. The 2016 has some grippy tannins which will soften after a while.
Serving advice
Decant, decant, decant - be sure to give this powerhouse Cab Franc enough time to air out and breathe before diving in.
Food match
Try this wine with any dish suitable for a big Cabernet Sauvignon. The pinnacle choice being New York steak with a huckleberry demi glaze sauce with steamed baby carrots and mushroom couscous. It's great with any grilled or roasted meat such as carnitas pork, New Zealand lamb chops or rosemary chicken. Try it with an Impossible Burger - epic!

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Richard Bruno
- Richard Bruno is exactly what we love in a winemaker– the quiet achiever behind the scenes at some of the world's most famous wine brands. He's made wine for Francis Ford Coppola and Don Sebastiani, the latter of which was named Winery of the Year TWICE under his watch.
- During his decades making wine for famous wineries and earning them 90+ scores, he has traveled all up and down California's coastal wine regions. His experience and familiarity with the terrain allow him to sniff out the best-bang-for-buck pretty much anywhere in the state.
- Launching one's wine brand is hard and expensive, so Richard is using Angel funding – and he's able to focus on winemaking, instead of selling wine.
