Richard Bruno Vinum Monterey Chardonnay 2018
About the wine
Special-edition coastal Chardonnay - a limited release every lover of white wine should try
- Rich, ripe fruit flavors like pear and baked apple balance this Chardonnay’s background of vanilla and toasty oak, all gliding on a creamy texture into a long, opulent finish.
- Richard selected this Chardonnay from a single Monterey vineyard, where the cool coastal breezes help the grapes develop a deep, complex cast of flavors that Richard elevated with 18 months of aging in French oak.
- This bottling of Chardonnay is a special selection from Richard’s own company Vinum Cellars. Supplies are limited, and as a one-time release, this may be the only vintage of this wine to ever appear on the site. If high-end Chardonnay is your thing, this is one coastal sipper you have to try.
Best before
This Chardonnay will age well for 3-5 years, but it is also pretty perfect now.
Serving advice
Open and pour. If you lay it down for 3-5 years, please take a little time to aerate it to let its complex flavors shine their brightest.
Food match
This is a very rich, textured, creamy Chardonnay which is a classic pairing with lobster on the half shell (skip the drawn butter). I love it with grilled wild caught salmon and a lemon pesto caper sauce. If there is some of this wine left for dessert it's nice with creme brûlée, bread pudding and fruit tarts.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Richard Bruno
- Richard Bruno is exactly what we love in a winemaker– the quiet achiever behind the scenes at some of the world's most famous wine brands. He's made wine for Francis Ford Coppola and Don Sebastiani, the latter of which was named Winery of the Year TWICE under his watch.
- During his decades making wine for famous wineries and earning them 90+ scores, he has traveled all up and down California's coastal wine regions. His experience and familiarity with the terrain allow him to sniff out the best-bang-for-buck pretty much anywhere in the state.
- Launching one's wine brand is hard and expensive, so Richard is using Angel funding – and he's able to focus on winemaking, instead of selling wine.
