Sam Plunkett Whitegate Vineyard Cabernet 2013
About the wine
Made with Sam's family vineyards, this won the trophy for BEST Cabernet in Victoria
- This stunning Cab is a pure passion project from one of Sam's family vineyards in the elevated and coolish Strathbogie Ranges of Central Victoria.
- Its dark inky color and deep berry flavors nabbed this wine a Gold medal and trophy at the 2014 Le Concours des Vins de Victoria, and Blue Gold and Top 100 listing at the 2015 Sydney International Wine Competition.
- And because it's Angel funded, this high-end wine only costs $16.99 for Angels despite it's ultra-limited production (only 240 cases)!
Best before
The wine has a richness which makes it an enjoyable drink now, and some people will still be enjoying the wine when it is 10 years old and with added layers of flavour and complexity.
Serving advice
Ideally leave it breath for an hour or so, though in truth we would open it and pour a glass straight away at home. Serve 16-18C
Food match
The minty flavour of this Cab makes it a great match with lamb (think if it as the mint sauce accompaniment). More generally, enjoy with rack of lamb, lamb chops on the BBQ, or roast dishes.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Sam Plunkett
- Sam is one of our Australian All-Stars. He garnered lots of attention as the award-winning winemaker at Plunkett Fowles.
- But Plunkett Fowles hit rough waters and Sam wasn't sure he'd be able to stay in the wine business...until he became Angel funded. Your support put his startup on the map.
- Now Sam is off to the races – with the same dedication to quality winemaking that won so many accolades at Plunkett Fowles – and none of the bother about sales and marketing.
