Steve Rasmussen Santa Barbara Pinot Noir 2014
About the wine
This was Steve's fantasy vineyard for over 15 years!
Steve Rasmussen, your Angel-funded winemaker, says:
- "This is a premiere coastal vineyard with the perfect soil, altitude, and location (near Los Alamos) to make perfect cool-climate wines like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. I have wanted to make wine from this vineyard ever since 1999 when my friends Dana and Kevin Merril first planted it."
- "Thanks to Angels, I finally get my chance to work with this dream vineyard – and I get to do everything just the way I want to... that means I get to ferment with native yeasts (instead of adding standardized yeasts that big companies use all around the world) and picking at exactly the right moment (instead of picking to optimize larger volumes of Pinot)."
- "Thanks to Angel support, this wine came out just perfect - spicy and earthy with good body and a smooooth finish that lingers pleasantly and intriguingly until you're ready for another sip!"
Best before
This wine will benefit from some ageing and should continue to improve for the next 4 to 5 years but is ready to drink and enjoy now.
Serving advice
Decant if possible, otherwise open a bit before drinking
Food match
It pairs well with a wide variety of dishes, grilled vegetables and meats of various types. The classic pairing is with Lamb. My favorite local dish to go with this wine would be some grass fed beef from Hearst Ranch in San Simeon along with whatever grilled local vegetables are in season.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Steve Rasmussen
- After cutting his teeth at biiiig wineries like Inglenook and Corbett Canyon, Steve specialized in warmer climate wines in Argentina and Southern California. He still consults at several top notch wineries in Argentina and makes wine for British rock band Foghat.
- Steve's excited to work with Angel funding because it's a new opportunity to make small-volume, high-quality wines exactly the way he wants to make them.
- If you like that warm, rich Mediterranean style then Steve is going to knock you off your feet.
