Aussie Shiraz. Just conjures up juicy good times with friends. This one is no different and there's a reason they call it Black Tongue! :) On the nose, I get rich, super-ripe blackberries. A touch of mint and some stoney minerals. Next comes homemade boysenberry jam. Bam! I hint of butterscotch and french vanilla coffee. Yummo as Rachel Ray would say. Yeah, and that's just the nose and I sniffed it a good 15 minutes before letting it touch my lips. So, on to the tasting, the sipping, and the drinking!! Immediately on the mouth you get a silky, warm, dark berry compote. Adding some air really changes things up though ... Very quickly, in this order ... cloves, black pepper, soy sauce, and grape juice - the kind you had as a kid. But that doesn't last long because it's immediately smoothed out with warm vanilla and toasted orange peel. Then comes the dustiness.... the cedar, the dark, dark chocolate and ends with some soft ash. The profile is immense and this is a wine you really need to let open up before going any further. So, I can't wait to try some more tomorrow! If there's not any more of this available, I'm going to slit my wrist.
